City hails victorious Baguio-based Taekwondo and Arnis athletes, coaches
The city council passed separate resolutions congratulating and commending Baguio-based athletes and their coaches for their sterling achievements in various national and international sporting events that brought pride, honor and glory to the Summer Capital.
Resolution No. 308, series of 2022, congratulates and commends these athletes for bringing home pride, glory and honor by emerging victorious in the 7th Asian Taekwondo Poomsae Championships and the 2022 Chuncheon Korea Open International Taekwondo Championships in South Korea.
The measure states that Baguio-based Taekwondo athletes and members of the Philippine delegation performed exceptionally well in both events and brought home the following medals and recognition: Justin Kobe Macaria, silver medal in the freestyle poomsae mixed team at the 7th Asian Taekwondo Poomsae Championships and bronze in the pair category.
He got the gold medal in the freestyle poomsae individual category in the 2022 Chuncheon Korea Open International Taekwondo Championships while Jeordan Dominguez won silver in the freestyle poomsae mixed team event at the Asian Championships and bronze in the pair category of the Korea Open.
Angelica Joyce Gaw garnered a bronze medal in the recognized poomsae team category of the Asian Championships and landed gold in the same event at the Korea Open.
The measure states that under ordinance no. 47, series of 2021, or the ‘Baguio City Comprehensive Sports Code’, the Summer Capital emphasizes strong support to Baguio athletes who continuously dream big amidst current uncertainties.
Meanwhile, resolution no. 307, series of 2022, congratulates and commends Baguio city based athletes and their coaches who are members of the Philippine National Arnis Team for contributing two gold, five silver, and four bronze medals in the 16th World Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex in Cebu held July 17 to 24, this year.
The Baguio-based athletes who competed and garnered medals in the event include Don Lee Aliga who got a gold medal in the individual sayaw 18-39 years old male single stick musical category; silver, individual padded point 18-39 years old male 58 kg and below; and bronze, team sayaw all ages mixed category.
Crisamuel Delfin got bronze in the individual padded point 18+ years old male category; silver, individual sayaw 18-39 years old single stick musical; while Elmer Manlapas won gold in the individual knifepoint 18+years old male 62 kg and below; silver, individual single stick 18-39 years old male 58.1 kg-62 kg; bronze, individual sayaw 18-39 years old male double stick musical; and bronze, team sayaw all ages mixed category.
Billy Joel Villanueva won silver in the individual padded point 18+years old male 64.1-69 kg; bronze, team sayaw all ages mixed; while Abegail Abad got silver in the individual padded point 18+years old female 59.1-78 kg; bronze, individual single stick 18-39 years old female 64.1-71 kg category.
