City commends local paper

The city council passed resolution no. 279, series of 2023, congratulating the Baguio Chronicle for winning three major awards during the 2022 Civic Journalism Community Press Awards by the Philippine Press Institute (PPI) for the weekly category in Pasay City on April 25, this year.

The Philippine Press Institute, considered as the oldest media association in the country, holds an annual Civic Journalism Community Press Award with the aim of raising the standards of the community press and recognizing its role as a catalyst for local development.

This annual recognition, launched in 1996, is a manifestation of support and acknowledgment of the community press, the approved measure stated. 

It disclosed that for the year 2022, the Baguio Chronicle bagged three awards at the ceremony recently held for the 2022 Civic Journalism Community Press Awards by the Philippine Press Institute (PPI), including Best in Reporting on Mitigation Issues; Best Editorial Page; and Best Edited Community Newspaper.

On 24 October 2022, the Philippine Press Institute (PPI) 2021 Civic Journalism Community Press Awards bestowed the same awards to the Baguio Chronicle  in the weekly category, the resolution stated.

It revealed that the Baguio Chronicle was established on 06 December 2009 in the Summer Capital and circulated in the Ilocos and the Cordillera Regions.

“Now in its 14th year, it continues to grow and become among the fastest growing weekly publications in the region; and  its coverage and presentation of the issues reflect a fair, balanced and fact- based opinion and reporting that embodies the core of print professionals,” the measure stressed. – Gaby B.
