Bill on put up of high school for arts, sports backed
City officials recently supported the immediate passage of Senate Bill (SB) 2096 establishing the Baguio City High School for the Arts and appropriating funds for the said purpose and House Bill (HB) 8700 establishing the Baguio City Sports High School and appropriating funds for the same.
In a resolution, city legislators stated that the establishment of a school that specializes in arts and sports in the city will aggressively promote sustainable development of young Filipinos whose aptitude and skills in sports, culture and the arts will be properly encouraged and honed through education and specialized training programs.
The resolution noted that it is the policy of the State to promote physical education and encourage sports programs, league competitions and amateur sports, including training for international competitions, to foster self-discipline, teamwork and excellence for the development of a healthy and alert citizenry.
Further, it is also a policy of the State to foster the preservation, enrichment and dynamic evolution of Filipino national culture based on the principle of unity and diversity in a climate of free artistic and intellectual expression.
The resolution pointed out that Baguio is a home of sports champions who excelled in their respective fields not only in regional competitions but also in the international arena.
Moreover, the city is also a melting pot of Cordillera cultures but also includes non-indigenous peoples and foreign cultures.
Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to the House of Representatives and the Senate for their information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. – Dexter A. See
