Benguet records highest recoveries; now under moderate risk

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet (PIA) — The province of Benguet recorded the highest single day COVID-19 recoveries last February 4 since the pandemic hit the province in 2020.

The Provincial Health Office reported 1,161 recoveries on Feb. 4 with the municipality of La Trinidad recording the most with 826, followed by Itogon with 100, and Tuba with 97. Mankayan and Tublay reported 24 recoveries each, Sablan with 21, Atok with 20, Kabayan with 16, Buguias with 11, Kapangan with 10, Kibungan and Bokod with five each, and Bakun with two.

As of February 6, Benguet already has recorded a total of 27,287 COVID-19 confirmed cases with 25,046 recoveries, 840 deaths and 1,401 active cases.

The first case of COVID-19 infection in Benguet was recorded on March 28, 2020.

Benguet Provincial Health Officer 1 Dr. Meliarazon Dulay said that the COVID-19 cases in the province of Benguet are now on decreasing trend.

Since January 28, 2022, the province has been logging over 100 cases in a day compared to the 200 to 300 cases recorded per day in the past weeks when the province had a sudden surge of cases after the holidays.  Highest cases in a single day for the year so far were recorded on January 21 with 355 cases, January 22 with 331 cases and January 20 with 313 cases.

With the decreasing cases, the province is now placed under a moderate epidemic risk level as of February 5, 2022. Despite the lowering of the risk classification, Benguet is still under Alert Level 3 status.

Governor Melchor Diclas reminded the public to still strictly adhere to the health and safety protocols against the COVID-19 to. He said that practicing the minimum health standards would prevent the further spread and possible contraction of the COVID-19. (JDP/RMC- PIA CAR) (Benguet TTMF photos)
