BENECO’S SHARE CAPITAL: SHARES UP! POWER UP
By: Laarni Ilagan
In time for its founding anniversary and cooperative month celebration, the Benguet Electric Cooperative (BENECO) will give treats to its member-consumer-owners (MCO).
One, bags of goodies will be given to prompt payors and two, cash awards and groceries will be given to those who have paid their share capital.
The prompt power bill payor award, called “Power Hour!” was launched last October 1. Here, those who will pay before the due date of their bills will be given a bag of goodies.
Those who paid at least a portion of their share capital will be entitled to raffle stubs under the program called “Share Capital: Shares Up! Power Up!” which was launched on Oct. 7.
It has two tiers. Tier 1 applies to those who have paid their share capital from October 1, 2023, until September 30, 2024. There will be 51 winners who will be drawn to jibe with the 51st anniversary year of the electric cooperative.
Based on BENECO’s records, there are 8,922 MCOs who qualified for this tier. The weekly draw will last until October 20, 2024, to commemorate Oct. 20, 2021 when MCOs and employees reclaimed the BENECO headquarters from the “lost souls” who insisted that they were the legitimate leaders of BENECO then.
Since then, October 20 has been marked and celebrated as “MCO Employee Reclamation Day.”
Tier 2 of the promotion will only cover those MCOs who have fully paid the required minimum share capital of P2,000 or more. There will be weekly draws till December 31, 2024.
Qualified MCOs are evaluated upon the payment of their share capital at any of BENECO’s collecting centers – South Drive, Maharlika Livelihood Center, Bonuan Salud Mitra, BENECO Km. 4, La Trinidad; and Buyacaoan, Buguias.
Raffle entries will be given to the MCOs who will in turn drop them in the boxes prepared at the payment center. The weekly raffle will be conducted at the main office of the cooperative at South Drive, Baguio City. The same venue will host the grand draw on January 31, 2025.
Up for grabs for the grand draw are P10,000 (1st prize); P7,500 (2nd prize); P5,000 (3rd prize); P1,000 each for five winners and P500 each for another five winners.
The weekly raffle winners will receive P500 worth of groceries.
“The crucial support of MCOs in the dramatic retaking of BENECO’s headquarters South Drive building last October 20, 2021, will again be recognized. This will also serve as a reminder and challenge for BENECO employees to not be complacent. We must always strive to improve and serve our community better,” Melchor Licoben, general manager, said.
“Our modest prizes are in recognition of our MCO’s continuing support,” he added.**(LSI)
