BCSAT Promotes Mental Health of employees in this time of pandemic
BCSAT, Baguio City – “Increasing the strength of our minds is the only way to reduce the difficulty of life.” ― Mokokoma Mokhonoana
To cope with the new normal in this time of pandemic, there is a need to prepare and care for the mental health of every individual so as to be able to function productively and live life happily.
The quote mentioned above has driven the Baguio City School of Arts and Trades (BCSAT) Administrator Arlene Cadalig to recommend to the other members of the management committee to plan and conduct activities that would promote the psychosocial development of all BCSAT employees.
A seminar on Stress management was conducted on August 13, 2021 at the BCSAT FBS Function Laboratory with 37 participants and 3 facilitators. The participants were BCSAT employees and some students.
The school was lucky to have the founder of “Anxiety and Depression Support Group” in the Cordilleras, Ricky B. Ducas, Jr., our renowned Igorot pride singer, Ingrid M. Payaket and the former Philippine Nurse’s Association – Cordillera Administrative Region (PNA-CAR), Ruth Thelma P. Tingda. The facilitators are all registered nurses.
Ricky Ducas, Jr. discussed about stress, its causes, effects and how to deal with it in this time of pandemic. On the other hand, Ingrid Payaket shared her talents in music by rendering songs of which some were composed by her and discussed the “Therapeutic Effects of Music on Mental Health” while Dr. Ruth Thelma Tingda conducted motivational sharing on “Mental Health Break in the Workplace”.
Fortunately, there was an ongoing virtual training for the Baguio City Male Dorm residents so they were inspired by Payaket through her therapeutic songs.
During the training, the participants were asked to do an exercise and at the same time checking all their body parts if there are abnormalities from head to toe which the participants obediently followed and performed.
It is expected that after the seminar, the minds of the participants are refreshed and ready to face the new normal and its challenges. ###
