BCPO – Women and Children Protection Unit to work out diversionary youth activities
Youth activities shall be the focus of the Baguio City Police Office Women and Children Protection unit (BCPO- WCPU) in coordination with the Social Welfare and Development Offices and other agencies as diversion from the commission of crimes, including rape.
This was discussed during the City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) last quarter meeting at city hall last week.
From January to November 2022, there were 39 incidents of rape, from the 51 counted for the whole year of 2021.
BCPO City Director Col Francisco Bulwayan who reported on criminality in the city said that for rape cases, there is 100% crime clearance efficiency, and a 41% crime solution is achieved as for the 39 cases, warrants of arrest were served to 23 suspects and cases filed in court.
Of the 39 cases, 22 were minors; 8 to 17 years old; CD Bulwayan reported. The influence of alcohol is considered a factor in the commission of the crime, mostly by relatives and neighbors, he added. There is no data that drugs are used by the perpetrator, which could only be confirmed by a drug test.
The youngest suspect is a ten-year old, and the oldest is 77; the latest, a father-daughter case, Bulwayan ended.
The CPOC meets regularly for various concerns including criminality, insurgency, public safety, crisis management, peace and order and public safety plan with concerned offices and agencies.
