BCPO reports over 50K traffic apprehensions in ten months

The Baguio City Police Office reported a total of 59,816 traffic apprehensions from January 1 to October 6, 2022 earning the city government more than P26 million from the traffic citation tickets.

Almost half of the total traffic apprehensions were operated by the BCPO – Traffic Enforcement Unit at 28,168; Station 1 – 2,489; Station 2 – 6,032; Station 3 – 2,520; Station 4 – 1,125; Station 5 – 2,286; Station 6 – 1,035; Station 7 – 7,126; Station 8 – 947; Station 9 – 1,224; and Station 10 – 1,153.

The BCPO – City Mobile Force Company apprehended 1,349 traffic violations while the Mobile Patrol unit apprehended 3,219; the Tourist Police Unit with 732 while the Highway Patrol Group apprehended 425.

City Director PCOL Francisco B. Bulwayan Jr. said the most common traffic violation is illegal parking.

He reminded motorists to follow directional traffic signages and park only in designated parking areas with the corresponding fees.

The city government is now operating the former Jadewell parking area as a pay-parking facility as well as regulating the collection of fees for the use of certain roads in the central business district for parking.

Bulwayan reminded the public to adhere to the Number Coding Ordinance being implemented from 7AM to 7PM within the central business district and major thoroughfares. Coding of vehicles with plate numbers ending in 1 and 2 – Monday, 3 and 4 – Tuesday, 5 and 6 – Wednesday, 7 and 8 – Thursday, 9 and 0 – Friday. The Number Coding Ordinance does not exempt tourists from the scheme.

The city director likewise reminds motorists of the Truck Ban Ordinance disallowing heavy equipment vehicles, trailers, dump trucks and other freight trucks with gross weight capacity of 4,500 kilograms or more in traversing, parking or unloading through the streets or roads in the city from 6AM to 9AM and from 4PM to 9PM.

Another local policy in the city relative to traffic management is Ordinance No. 18 series of 2019 which provides for the speed limits pursuant to Republic Act No. 4136 or the “Land Transportation and Traffic Code” which prescribes the maximum allowable speed for specific road classes and motor vehicles. – JMPS
