BAGUIO CITY – On Easter Sunday, April 9th, the Baguio Correspondents and Broadcasters Club (BCBC) bid farewell to this year’s Lucky Summer Visitors (LSVs), seven fortunate tourists who were chosen by the club to receive free tours and accommodations for four days beginning Maundy Thursday.
The officers and members of BCBC led by its President, Joseph Cabanas, gathered at Camp Pepot Ilagan in Burnham Park to express their gratitude to the LSVs for choosing Baguio as their summer destination.
In his message, Cabanas said, “We are honored to have been able to provide our Lucky Summer Visitors with an unforgettable experience in Baguio. It is our hope that they had a wonderful time here and will come back again in the future.”
The seven LSVs, who came from Bataan and Cavite, expressed their gratitude to the BCBC and the city of Baguio, the municipality of La Trinidad, as well as the provincial government of Benguet for the warm hospitality and memorable experiences they had during their visit.
As the LSVs bid goodbye to Baguio, the officers and members of BCBC wished them safe travels back to their respective homes and looked forward to welcoming new Lucky Summer Visitors in the future.
The BCBC’s Lucky Summer Visitors program has been an annual event in Baguio City since 1958 and has been running for several years now, becoming a highly-anticipated tradition.
This initiative aims to promote sustainable tourism while also giving back to first-time visitors of Baguio City and Benguet.
After a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the activity has resumed for the first time.
The seven LSVs were selected from two Baguio-bound passenger buses early Thursday morning, Victory Liner and Genesis Bus Co., at the municipality of Pugo, La Union.
The selection was hosted by Pugo Mayor Kurt Martin and carried out by a team composed of BCBC officers and members, in partnership with the Department of Tourism – Cordillera, Baguio City Tourism Office, Philippine National Police, Land Transportation Office, and Philippine Information Agency – Cordillera.
The seven LSVs selected were Ciara Balmaceda and Ivan Magahis, both employees from Bacoor, Cavite, and Ivy Cayabyab, Lea Cayabyab, Rechelle Ramos, Joan Velez, and Genalyn Billones from Mariveles, Bataan. Merriam del Rosario //FNS
