Here’s another feather in the cap of the Summer Capital.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong was one of the high-level speakers during the Annual Investment Meeting Global 2023, May 7 to 10, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) where he presented the Baguio City Smart City Digital Platform and its current capabilities before world leaders and visionaries.

The prestigious international event is the Middle East’s leading investment platform that aspires to ignite positive transformation throught the creation of investment opportunities and developing economic relations among nations.

During flag-raising rites at City Hall, May 15, the Mayor said the city aims to achieve Smart City status in five years with the help of international partners, especially the World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization (WeGo), a sustainability organization based in South Korea.

“WeGo committed to help Baguio develop its Smart Educational System (eLearning) that can be integrated in our Smart City digital platform,” he said.

The Mayor revealed that the city government and WeGo also launched a capacity-building program for the city, giving it the know-how to develop its own artificial intelligence (AI) capability.

In an earlier interview, Magalong said the Baguio Smart City initiative envisions a future where various types of electronic methods are used to manage the city’s assets, resources and to provide even more efficient and effective services to the public as part of good governance. – Gaby B. Keith
