Baguio sends aid to Banaue landslide victims
The local government granted financial assistance amounting to P500,000 from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officeโs quick response fund to the municipality of Banaue, Ifugao which was badly hit by southwest monsoon that caused floods and landslides in the said locality.
Under Ordinance No. 49, series of 2022, the grant of the aforesaid financial assistance to Banaue, Ifugao is in accordance with the pertinent provisions of Republic Act (RA) 7160 or the Local government Code of the Philippines.
It has always been the practice of the local government, in countless occasions in the past, of extending financial assistance to cities, municipalities or provinces which had been struck by natural or man-made calamities, a tradition of support and thoughtfulness and reciprocation of what other local governments from various parts of the country had extended to the city when it was hit by the intensity 7.9 killer earthquake on July 16, 1990 and other calamities.
On July 7, 2022, heavy rains with strong winds caused by the prevailing southwest monsoon were experienced in Banaue, Ifugao that caused flash flood and massive landslide incidents that resulted in the loss of properties, housing, agricultural crops, and support facilities as well as infrastructure in the said locality.
Some 1,052 families from 9 barangays were affected by the said incident where 1,047 families lost their dwellings.
Earlier, the Banaue municipal council placed the whole municipality under state of calamity because of the aforesaid incident by virtue of Sangguniang Bayan Resolution No. 61, series of 2022.
The amount of P500,000 representing the cityโs financial assistance to Banaue, Ifugao was certified available by the local finance committee where the same will be charged to the quick response fund under the CDRRMO of this year. – Dexter A. See
