Baguio, Sablayan forge sisterhood ties

City officials recently authorized the local chief executive to enter into a sisterhood or sibling agreement with the Musicality of Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro.

Under Resolution No. 160, series of 2024, local legislators stated that the establishment of sisterhood or sibling relationship will open doors for unity and strengthen the interaction between the two local government units to share best practices in governance and inter-agency cooperation.

Earlier, the council considered a letter dated February 16, 2024 of Sablayan Mayor Walter B. Marquez to the members of the body signifying intent to be part of the sister cities relations and big brother program of the city to mutually raise awareness, share transformation, encourage advancement and transfer experiences.

The council stipulated that Baguio and Sablayan had a prior collaboration through the campaign for good governance and accountability and numerous Baguio residents reportedly migrated to Sablayan by way of cross marriages or economic reasons.

Sablayan is an emerging fish industry hub in Region IV-B and can supply Baguio with their produce such as fish and other marine products, rice, onions, corn, and other agricultural products.

Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to the Municipality of Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro for information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. – Dexter A. See
