Baguio Para-tenpin bowlers commended

City officials recently congratulated and commended Baguio-based para-athletes who emerged victorious in the 1st Asian Para-tempin Bowling Championships held on May 26-31, 2023 in Belair Bowling Center, Hong Kong.

In a resolution, local legislators stated that it is with great pride and joy that the city government and the people confer the commendation to Baguio para-athletes for successfully representing the country and the city in the 1st Asian Para-tenpin Bowling Championships.

Earlier, the 1st Asian Para-tenpin Bowling Championships was held at Belair Bowling Center in Shatin from May 26-31, 2023 organized by the Asian Bowling Federation and the Hong Kong Sports Association for the physically disabled.

The said international tournament was participated in by para-athletes from China, India, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Hong Kong and the Philippines.

Composed of the official Philippine delegation were athletes from Baguio city with the proper guidance and mentorship of their coaches and trainers.

The council claimed that the Baguio para-athletes performed exceptionally well in their respective sporting events that allowed them to bring honor and pride to the city.

The Baguio-based athletes who brought home medals and recognitions for the country and the city were Jamie Manginga – gold medalist in the men’s TPB8 singles and the men’s all events TPB8 standing, and Jamie Manginga and Agusto Hernandez – silver medalist in the double class TPB8 + TPB8.

Under the City Sports Code as amended, by order of prioritization, Baguio residents, Baguio-attached and Baguio-affiliated athletes who clinch the top spots are entitled to cash incentives from the local government, after proper review of their documents.

The body underscored that the outstanding performances of these athletes with the guidance of their coaches and support of their families have portrayed unquestionable discipline and sports excellence perfected through years of training and dedication despite their unique physical attributes being differently abled that serves as an inspiration for the whole country and are worthy of emulation by the people of the nation and the city. – Dexter A.
