Baguio Jiu-jitsu athletes, coaches commended

City officials recently congratulated and commended the Baguio athletes and coaches for winning in the Angeles International Open Jiu-jitsu Championship 2023 held at SM Clark, Angeles City, Pampanga last June 17-18, 2023.

In a resolution, local legislators stated that the achievement of the Baguio-based athletes again proves that the city is one of the home of world-class athletes thereby giving pride and honor to the city and to the whole country.

Earlier, the Angeles International Open Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2023 is a prestigious event hosted by the Philippines which was held at the SM Clark, Angeles City, Pampanga last June 17-18, 2023.

The said event was participated by athletes representing various gym affiliations and countries to include the United States of America (USA), Great Britain, India, Russia, Netherlands, Singapore and Norway.

Further, there were athletes who came from 2 jiu-jitsu gyms who represented in the city in the said prestigious competition.

Among  the Baguio-based athletes who were able to garner medals in the said competition include Wren Lumidao – gold medalist in the male white adult light featherweight; Jordan Lumidao – gold medalist in the male white Masters middleweight; Jahmani Ngina – gold medalist in the male white adult lightweight; Ethan Salvador – gold medalist in the adult featherweight No Gi; Rocky Fowaya – gold medalist in the open weight and bronze medalist in the male white adult Master 1; Chriz Mindaro – gold  medalist in the male blue Master 1 lightweight, silver medalist in the male blue Master 2 Gi lightweight and silver medalist in the male open weight; Ron Deliu – silver medalist in the male white adult featherweight; Edel Ali Ngina – silver medalist in the male white juvenile lightweight; Carty Mariano – silver medalist in the female white adult lightweight Gi; Keaunu Raye Francisco – silver medalist in the adult light featherweight No Gi; Angelica del Rosario – silver medalist in the adult lightweight Gi; Manny Afable – silver medalist in the male white Masters middleweight; Alysa Lapastora – silver medalist in the female white juvenile middleweight; Long Rafanan – bronze medalist in the male blue adult lightweight Gi; Marian Paras – bronze medalist in the while adult lightweight Gi; and Kyle Mindaro – bronze medalist in the male white adult Rooster.

The council claimed that the coaches of the said athletes also played an important role in their achievements thereby being worthy of similar commendation, particularly Dave Galera of Gridlock over Limit Sniper gym and Guillermo Geronimo of Ronin-Jiu-jitsu Matzone. – Dexter A. See
