Award of road widening project to be held in abeyance

City officials recently requested the Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) of the city government to hold in abeyance the issuance of the requisite notice of award for the proposed widening project of the city government along Carantes Street.

Under Resolution No. 380, series of 2024, local legislators stated that during the council deliberations, lawyer Luz Balisong of the City Legal Office manifested that the Carantes Street road widening project was already bid out and that the City Engineering Office CEO) is just waiting for the issuance of a notice of award by the BAC for the prosecution of the said project.

Earlier, the council considered matters, issues and suggestions manifested by responsible resource persons during the June 10, 2024 regular session relative to Proposed Resolution No. PR0185-2024 introduced by Councilor Isabelo Cosalan, Jr. inviting different personalities regarding the road widening project of the city government along Carantes Street.

The building owners along Diego Silang Street and Carantes Street who will be affected by the proposed road widening project understand and appreciate the city’s efforts towards public wellness and infrastructure development and are by no means opposing it.

However, they are deeply concerned about the impact of the city’s road widening project on their buildings which will definitely affect the safety of the public and the occupants of the said structures but also diminish the historical significance and heritage value of the said buildings which have been constructed since the early 1950s.

Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to the BAC for information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. Dexter A. See
