Amidst the surge of COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila

VP Leni’s office sends out more PPEs to hospitals

As more hospitals in Metro Manila become in danger of being overrun with COVID-19 cases, the office of Vice President Leni Robredo has started to increase its distribution of personal protective equipment (PPE) to various hospitals and institutions in the capital region.

From March 11, 2021, VP Leni’s office has been able to distribute a total of 13,350 daily sets of PPEs and 1,200 reusable protective suits, initially to major hospitals and institutions in Quezon City, in light of the surge of cases in the country.

Aside from PPEs, the OVP also sent out medical supplies, including 1,100 pieces of surgical masks, 1,100 pieces of face shields, 550 pieces of head covers, 110 pieces of medical gowns, and 44 gallons of disinfectants, to several health institutions.

During her visit in Iloilo on Tuesday, March 16, VP Leni reiterated her call for urgent action in roll out of government’s vaccination program amidst the rising number of cases of COVID-19.

“Ngayon na may surge, mas naging urgent siya, kasi nakita naman natin iyong numbers sa Manila. Nakita natin iyong numbers sa Manila. Medyo alarming siya,” VP Leni said.

“So ganoon kahalaga iyong vaccines ngayon, kasi iyon talaga iyong isa sa malalaking dahilan—hindi siya iyong only chance natin, pero siya iyong isang malaking dahilan para mabago natin iyong trajectory,” she added.

VP Leni’s office has been giving various forms of assistance—from distributing PPEs and food and care packages to providing free shuttle service and dormitories—to health workers and non-medical frontliners since COVID-19 hit the country last year.

Since March of last year, the OVP has so far distributed 351,375 PPE sets for 23,425 frontliners, as well as 17,271 food and care packages for each frontliners served across the country.

The OVP has also been allocating funds to procure test kits for testing centers and laboratories in several provinces in Luzon, Visayas and in Mindanao, in its bid to support testing efforts of the government. ###
