Agencies told to prioritize projects to contain landslides

City officials recently requested all concerned government offices and agencies to consider prioritizing infrastructure projects to contain landslides, flood and sinking-prone areas to minimize its effects in all disaster-prone areas in the city.
Under Resolution No. 355, series of 2023, local legislators stated that since infrastructure projects are very important in the reduction of landslides, flood and sinking-prone areas in the city, this must be given priority to immediately address issues and concerns regarding their progress to prevent delays in their implementation and completion to ensure the protection of life and limb from the effects of natural and human-induced disasters.
Earlier, the council considered the proposed resolution of Councilor Fred Bagbgen that sought to invite the Department of Public Works and Highways–Cordillera Administrative Region (DPWH-CAR), the DPWH–Baguio City District Engineering Office and the City Engineering Office (CEO) to shed light on the alleged unstable ground and slope protection included in the project being implemented by the concerned government agencies near the Lion’s Head along Kennon Road.
However, the council argued that since it is not only the DPWH-CAR and the DPWH-BCDEO being the implementing office and the CEO which are concerned with the proper execution and implementation of the infrastructure projects, it was the consensus of the body to call the attention of all concerned offices for their cooperation and collaboration with other agencies in order to ensure public safety and security to all motorists and residents along the Lion’s Head, Kennon Road. – Dexter A.
