Accessibility devices on roads in city proposed

City officials recently requested the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the City Engineering Office (CEO) to install assistive stratagems or accessibility devices on roads in the city for persons with disabilities (PWDs).
Under Resolution NO. 707, series of 2023, local legislators stated that PWDs also walk and pass at cross roads or streets, thus, there should be a device or stratagem that will help them in passing and crossing roads and streets.
During the Scout Official for a Day (SOFAD) regular session held on October 23, 2023, the SOFAD Council adopted the proposal of SOFAD Councilor Axl Alaizter Y. Siblag that requested the CEO and the DPWH to install assistive stratagems or accessibility devices on roads for PWDs.
The council claimed that the rights and privileges of PWDs are embodied under the pertinent provisions of Republic Act (RA) 9442 or the Magna Carta for Disabled Persons and for other purposes and other special laws such as Batas Pambansa (BP) Bilang 344 or the Accessibility Law for the welfare and protection of PWDs as they integrate themselves into society.
Section 2 of PB Bilang 344 states that in case of public conveyance, devices such as prominent display of posters or stickers shall be used to generate public awareness of the rights of the disabled and foster understanding of their special needs.
Copies of the app resolution will be transmitted to the DPWH and CEO for their information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. – Dexter A. See
