Mayor announce 2022 city projects
Mayor Benjamin Magalong during the management committee meeting last week disclosed city projects for implementation this year.
The 28 projects include the Baguio City Public Market development plan, Intermodal Transport Terminal, the P382M worth youth convergence and indoor sports complex, the P30M tennis court club, athletes’ quarters, the AAA abattoir project and cold storage, and internet infrastructure Project lightning;
The smart mobility transport station, the P890M digital transformation center, the Baguio sewage treatment plant rehabilitation program; the Baguio traffic management system, and the city veterinarian project.
According to the mayor, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar has committed to support the greenwalk project, where plants providing greenery amidst the central business district are interspersed in sidewalks. This is in perfect combination with the “walkable city” sidewalk project.
Other projects are the 3-part P110M Wright Park project, the P3.2M greenhouse project with a P10M counterpart from Senator Risa Hontiveros, and five satellite barangay markets starting with the P69M Gibraltar goods’ shop.
Barangay halls, starting with two projects last year and one for this year, shall be implemented, with more in 2023 and 2024.
Road widening projects including development in uplane Session road are in the pipeline.
Soon to be improved are the Baguio City Post office park and the arboretum’s phase two project, and the city’s prime showcase, the Burnham Park.
Additional projects are programmed for the next years: the Dominican rehabilitation, Gov. Pack area including the Boy Scouts of the Philippines office which is approved by Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Roy Cimatu, the Baguio Hydro projects, and multi-level parking buildings.
Additional funds are sought for other important projects while strategic plans and green designs conforming to the environment, including social preparations are altogether considered.
The Mayor said the projects would generate employment for at least 4,000 individuals, which would spur the economy as the city prepares for the new normal. – Julie G. Fianza
