Baguio City Council thru Councilor Hon. Vladimir Cayabas awards SM City Baguio for the mall’s active participation in the city’s resolution that business establishments offer spaces for art galleries that uplift arts and creativity as well as further supporting Baguio City as the Philippines’ first UNESCO Creative City.

The commendation given to SM City Baguio was received by assistant mall manager Michael Jason Peña at the Cordillera Figurative Abstract art exhibit Upper Ground Exhibit Hall, near National Bookstore, at SM City Baguio on February 2, 2022.

To further support the local artists and in celebration of the National Arts Month,  SM City Baguio and Pasakalye Group of Artists has mounted a new art installation entitled, Pandëgka: Cordillera Figurative Abstract Exhibit. The word “Pandëgka” is an Ibaloi word which translates to create or make.

The art exhibit is a free space that features 120 artworks from Cordilleran artists. Mallgoers can view and explore the art displays at the Lower Basement Gallery, Upper Ground Exhibit Hall, and the Upper Ground Hallway (in between Uniqlo and H&M). The exhibits are on display from February 4 to April 16, 2022. For interested buyers, please contact the number listed on the title card of the artwork.

Volunteer curator and artist, Julius Lumiqued said that “In every new exhibit at SM City Baguio, I get to put an artwork or two. I would like to thank SM for giving us this stage and we hope to expand further.”

SM City Baguio has continuously promoted and supported the local art community through the years by opening a series of art exhibits, displaying and offering spaces for creative handicrafts, and welcoming music performances to busk within the mall as a way to help musicians and their community, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. These are one of the many ways that SM City Baguio has helped uplift the art community, by recognizing that artists and performances can reach a wider audience in public areas of the mall and advocate art and creativity to many others.  ###
