BSU 36TH CHARTER ANNIVERSARY, University goal to reach level V – President Comila

La Trinidad, Benguet – The 36th Charter Anniversary of Benguet State University was discussed on updates and accomplishments reports in Kapihan sa BSU on January 12, 2022 at the University Gymnasium, BSU and the theme for this year, “BSU CARES as a SMART University towards level V”

Hosted by Philippine Information Agency –CAR Regional Director Helen Tibaldo and UPAO Director Gretchen Ablaza.

The distinguished panelists led the presentation of updates and accomplishment reports from them Andres Arnold W. Lampacan-Executive Assistant IV, Imelda O. Degay-Vice President for Academic Affairs, Romeo A. Gomez Jr. – Vice President for Research and Extension, Johhny G, Formerly – Vice President for Business Affairs.

Degay previously explained about academic activities, provided insight.

 “In the Academic sector, all lead to a quality education because it is our program the academic sector that searches our show window in fact that we are an academic institution,”

Four programs were accredited last year but we took forward to many programs that will be accredited this First quarter by no less mandate AACCUP, we also have undergrad ISO with certification and BSU has passed last October so, we are now ISO 9001 in 2015 re-certified and also at the global level we have a 3 QS stars rating, at the moment enrollment has seeking to increase this school year as of last semester we have a total of 10,670 students, 85percent of whom are enrolled in our undergraduate programs of 2 percent in Doctorate programs and the rest 13 percent in Masteral DV programs,”

We continued to encourage faculty, our employees and students to attend seminars of whatever level institutional local regional, national or international and our students also with awards of various levels for the past year of this 1 percent of pay for partner international awards.

Performances in the past five years have 2016 – 2021 grab and it all the past years from 2016 – 2019 our court performances has the higher than the national except in our campuses so, sa La Trinidad lang lahat ng board passing grades has the higher than the national in the past several years.

“We encourage part of our efforts towards maintaining our quality and providing Inter-services, lnter-education to our students in this pandemic era, we pushed for vaccination of our employees and students as CHED now open the doors for sanction of face-to-face classes and that is what we are working at, “Degay added.

Lampacan, on behalf of the Vice President for Administration and Finance, presented the Preparation of Technical Documents for Infrastructure Projects in which there are proposed projects for this year 2022 lined up, the proposed strawberry farm elevated walkway, the design of the Temporary Shipping Container Facility for ECDC.

The Construction of Institute of Public Administration Building, Expansion of Administration Building – La Trinidad Campus, Construction of Free Enterprise Building – La Trinidad, Construction of BSU Supple Storage Facility – La Trinidad, Construction of Marketing Center Building – Buguias Campus, Construction of New Academic Building – Buguias campus, Construction of Marketing Building – Buguias Campus at Construction of New Academic Building – Bokod Campus, these is the proposed projects for 2022 for architectural plans prepared and submitted for budget approval in the office of Benguet Congressman Eric Yap.

Meanwhile, the projects completed in 2019 are the Rehabilitation of Motorpool completed in April 2021.

For the year 2020 projects completed are followed, the Repair of the College of Forestry Building – Rooftop (Third Floor), Backfilling and Concreting Including Repair of Drainage System of Area between Bakery and FPC, Construction of Dormitory (Bokod Campus), Construction of Two units Fix Vent Greenhouses with Aeroponics and Drip Irrigation, and for the year 2021 projects completed are Repair of 1-unit Greenhouse and Supply, Delivery and Installation of Aeroponics, Repair of BSU La Trinidad campus Road Network (BSU Museum to BSU last gate), Repair of Drainage System for the Gymnasium and Athletic Oval, Renovation & upgrading of the University Canteen 1, Electrical enhancement of the Laboratory Rooms at the Research and Development Complex and Upgrading of BSU and DA-CAR Sheep and Goat Multiplier Breeder Barns.

“At present we are, an employee under a contract of services and job order status around 653 personnel of this number 161 faculty members are all contract of service in instructor 1, so for admin and finance that would be the first priority that we are to do, with the requesting for the approval from work region the creation of this commission to ensure that we will sustain and maintain the quality service the university of the delivery of affairs,” Lampacan said

Gomez announced the highlights and accomplishments of the sectors and partners’ collaboration of the University with the community and other stakeholders.

“For the highlights, we have been recipients from numerous awards notably the following, the first in December 2021 we had the recognition on the BSU extension project during the 2021 Cordillera Administrative Region Agriculture and Fisheries Extension Network (CAR-AFEN) for Best Extension Projects and Best Extension Practitioner.

Second, during the Regional Invention Contest and Exhibit (RICE) virtual awarding conducted by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-CAR) we have garnered awards under the category UNLAD Award for Outstanding Utility Model, Creative Research, Student Creative Research (SIBOL) for College category and Best Video Presentation.

Also during the 11th Regional Symposium & 4th Regional Student Congress last November 25 -26, 2021 Mountain Province State Polytechnic College in Bontoc, Mt. Province the University has bags 22 Best Paper Awards. Apart from that, we have also signed a number of Memorandum of Agreements with a signal starts of continuing for a new partnership and to other sectors in our community.

The MOA was signed between the Department Of Agriculture, the DTI, DENR, DOST the DA-ATI in CAR.

 For the future plans, it would be a continuation of what we do the previous year but notably, we should be focusing on the following the first would be looking at or involving or enhancing internal processes and financial factors, and also enhancing our collaboration in partnership in terms of the 4th generation because we need still another funding to support our research and environment activity,” said Gomez

In the sectoral report of Business Affairs which is presented by VP Dati Sr., He summarizes University Business Appearance and the communication expenses.

The summary of Income from IGPs and Leasable areas. The total net income of IGPs and Leasable areas as of the fourth quarter of 2020 is Php27,581,718.81

The performance of the seven IGPs despite the pandemic, while some projects were not able to produce the targeted product volume and sales volume, the projects were able to surpass their projected ROI based on the projected income for the year.

The seven projects are Bakery and Café, Food Processing Center, Canteen 1, Garments, Poultry, Marketing Center and University Guestels.

The total sales revenue by the seven IGPs is Php 64,874,921.23 with an ROI of Php 8,251,822.89 (15%).

Income from Parking fees, The parking areas continued to operate even during the community quarantine to cater to the parking needs of stakeholders. The quarterly summary of income from two major parking areas namely: the Backfill and the Balili Parking lots.

A total of Php 2,210,506.00 was collected and remitted to the cashier’s office on a daily basis. The summary of collection from various leasable areas in the University. There was a total collection of Php 17,211, 914.36for the year in preview. In leasable area of Stalls/Booths/others the rent collection is 11,042353.24 in MOA Parking is 851,534.62, Sariling Sikap is 2,121,195.00 , Farmer Co-operators is 3,098,631.50 and in the Gate Pass Sticker (Backfill Area) is 98,200.00 and the total is Php 17,211,914.36.

Note: Summary of rent collection includes paid balance forwarded from previous years.   

UPAO Director Ablaza said,“The University would push forward trying to attain the level V SUC status for the next these coming years for the terms SMART is actually an acronym Systematic Mandate at the Right Time to mandate protocol, online hybrid learning that it requires that BSU should be able to establish accomplish and make good those needed facilities, needed more human resources, those needed technology and all things needed to attain the level V status. Kasi pag level V ka it means that your quality standard is higher, you are doing good the services that you are delivering and more importantly the national government would be given you more funding to sustain that level status and to sustain the kind of quality services you are rendering”
