Three suspects slain in Benguet shootout

Camp Major Bado Dangwa, La Trinidad, Benguet- Three (3) individuals suspected to be involved in robbery hold-up and carnapping incidents in Pampanga area were slain when they tried to elude arrest from the pursuing operatives of the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) and La Trinidad Municipal Police Station (MPS) along Baguio-Bontoc Road in Tomay, La Trinidad, Benguet, early morning of December 10, 2021.

Citing the reports submitted to PROCOR Regional Director, PBGEN RONALD OLIVER LEE, joint operatives of La Trinidad MPS and HPG- Special Operations Division (SOD) spotted the suspects aboard a red Mitsubishi Lancer with a missing back license plate along Baguio-Bontoc Road in Tomay, La Trinidad.

Upon immediate verification of the carโ€™s front plate number through the LTO Online 2600 Inquiry, it revealed that the plate number is registered to a different car make and model.

This prompted the operatives to track the suspects until they reached Clean Fuel Gasoline Station where they attempted to accost them. The suspects immediately opened fire at the operatives and drove away through Lamut-Shilan Road.

The operatives then chased after the suspects and immediately alerted PROCOR and the Cordillera Regional Highway Patrol Unit for assistance.

The pursuit ended when the suspectsโ€™ car crashed on a roadside barrier after trying to evade a police roadblock. Despite repeated warnings from the operatives, the suspects kept firing as they tried to flee on foot.

An exchange of fire between the suspects and operatives ensued eventually killing two (2) of the suspects while the third was immediately brought to the hospital but was declared as dead on arrival by the attending physician. Post-operation processing is still ongoing to verify the identities of all three suspects. (PROCOR-PIO)
