City’s environment revitalization campaign, ongoing

02 September 2021 – The city government is continuing its campaign to revitalize the Summer Capital’s environment as showcased by the transformation of the Irisan dumpsite into an Eco-Park and other high-impact projects.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong made the declaration in his State of the City Address during the 112th Baguio Charter Day Anniversary, September 1, at the Baguio Convention Center with Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo Puyat as a guest of honor.

This year’s celebration theme is, “Moving Forward As One”.

He said P100 million has already been allotted for the construction of a modern abattoir at Dontogan barangay and talks are currently underway for a Waste-to-Energy project and master planning for the city’s Central Business District.

Adopt-A-Park program partnerships and growth nodes are being actively pursued, the Mayor added.

The Mayor said the city is looking at the possibility of a P600 million grant from the Tourism Infrastructure Enterprise Zone Authority to rehabilitate Burnham Park and P40 million of initial pledges have been given for the rehabilitation of Wright Park.

The Asian Development Bank is conducting a feasibility study for the P3 billion Water and Sanitation Improvement and Rehabilitation project and the city is searching for funding for the construction of a rainwater harvesting facility, he said.

The city also started implementing a Baguio Green Walks Initiative that aims to show the future of the city’s physical environment that includes a P100 million sidewalk recovery and improvement program.-Gaby B. Keith
