City’s disasters mitigation programs launched in September to include life locators system

27 August 2021 – The Office of Civil Defense is scheduled to launch the Summer Capital’s disaster mitigation programs on September 9 in collaboration with the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) under officer-in-charge Antonette Anaban.

This was disclosed by city administrator Engr. Bonifacio Dela Pena during the regular management committee meeting, August 24, of local officials led by Mayor Benjamin Magalong at Baguio Convention Center.

Dela Pena requested Anaban to also include in the launching the city’s P10 million life locator system since its purpose is to protect the public and help save lives during calamities and other disasters.

He said training for the use of the high-tech scanning apparatus is scheduled on September 3 and 4 at Baguio Country Club in partnership with the CDRRMO.

 A video could be taken of the two-day training and shown during the September 9 launching, the city administrator added.

The Life locator equipment helps find live victims trapped at a disaster site for urban search and rescue. It detects signs of life when disasters like earthquakes, floods, explosions or similar occurrences result in victims trapped under debris piles.

The Mayor said purchase of the life locator system is part of the city’s aim to increase its capacity and capability to meet challenges brought about by natural and man-made calamities.- Gaby B. Keith
