8th International Conference on Asian and Philippine Studies slated on Heritage month

Tagaytay, Cavite – The annual gathering of language, culture and media scholars, researchers and academics would be taking place during the May Heritage month for the 8th International Conference coinciding with its first decade of facilitating scholarly conversations. The said language, culture and media conference is going to be held at Krisalis-Benilde Retreat and Conference center in Tagaytay city by May 29 to 31.
The 8th International Conference on Asian and Philippine Studies is organized by the De La Salle University Filipino Department, Dalubhasaan ng mga Umuusbong na Mag-aaral ng Araling Filipino (DANUM) and DLSU Manila College of Liberal Arts. The conference is geared toward building research and professional networks among students and scholars. The conference charges minimal fees due to its non-profit orientation and therefore the rates are affordable to Filipino students and young scholars.
The first conference was held in Corregidor Island in 2015; the second in Caramoan Island in 2016; the third in Kalibo, Aklan in 2017, in cooperation with the Aklan State University; the fourth in Baybay City, in cooperation with the Visayas State University; the fifth in Lipa City, in cooperation with De La Salle Lipa; the sixth in Dumaguete City, in cooperation with Silliman University; and the seventh in Baguio City. Moreover, the strategy of moving the conference from one location to the next is meant not only to sustain the interest of the De La Salle University participants and the other loyal participants, but moreso to expose all the participants to the actual diversity of Philippine localities and cultures.
According to its rationale, “the conference is intended to provide a venue for students and scholars interested and specialized in Asian and Philippine studies (language, media and culture) where they can present their recently finished research projects in order to be critiqued and enriched by their collective perspectives and insights with the hope that such projects will gain higher chances of being published in reputable journals. Here, young researchers and scholars learn from the experiences of the more seasoned ones; while the more seasoned ones get connected with the fresh ideas and out of the box thinking of the younger ones.”
In addition, the conference intends to create a lasting memory in the minds of its participants that research is fun and fulfilling and therefore should be continuously pursued even before and after the thesis/dissertation stage. The abstracts concerning but not limited to topics on Asian, and/or Philippine culture, language and media, written in English or Filipino, contains 300-500 words with short introduction, summary of results and conclusion) would be considered on, or before March 15.
