The celebration of the Christmas season and the observance of “Misa de Gallo” in Cordillera have been generally peaceful, as the Police Regional Office Cordillera Administrative Region (PRO-CAR) recorded no major untoward incidents from December 16 to 25, 2024.

According to reports from the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division (RIDMD) of PRO-CAR, a total of 22 crimes were reported in the region (8 index crimes and 14 non-index crimes). In addition, no significant incidents were reported as the community gathered for the annual observance of “Misa de Gallo,” as well as during the celebration of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

As part of the proactive measures to ensure peace and order during this holiday season, PBGEN DAVID K PEREDO, JR, PRO-CAR Regional Director, has ordered the deployment of 1,247 PRO-CAR personnel to enhance security measures through increased police visibility and the regular conduct of patrols in key areas throughout the region.

With the heightened security measures, crime incidents in the region during the Christmas season showed a significant decrease compared to the same period last year, which recorded a total of 56 crimes (22 index crimes and 34 non-index crimes).

Moving forward, all PRO-CAR personnel remain on high alert status to ensure that the rest of the holiday season is celebrated safely. Further, as part of the preparations for the New Year festivities, PBGEN PEREDO, JR directed police units to coordinate with the Bureau of Fire Protection and the Department of Health to enforce safety measures, aiming to prevent firecracker-related injuries and property damage.

The Regional Director also urges gun owners to exercise responsibility and avoid indiscriminate firing as we welcome the New Year. (PIO PRO-CAR /File Photo)
