SSS LA TRINIDAD REMINDS EMPLOYERS TO FOLLOW THE SOCIAL SECURITY LAW

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The Social Security System (SSS) urged delinquent employers in La Trinidad, Benguet to comply with the Social Security Law after it issued written notices to another set of employers during the Run After Contribution Evaders (RACE) Campaign.
SSS La Trinidad Branch Head Dominador Malatag said that six employers from the food industry received violation notices from SSS because they failed to register their businesses and report their employees to the SSS.
Malatag emphasized that under Republic Act No. 11199 or the Social Security Act of 2018, employers have the legal obligation to report their employees to SSS and remit the corresponding monthly contributions of their workers.
“Since they failed to register their employees, they will have to pay the unremitted contributions of their employees and corresponding penalties. We can offer them our ongoing penalty condonation and installment payment scheme programs to help them settle these arrears,” Malatag said.
Under the SS law, employers who fail to register their employees or have not deducted and remitted their contributions will be penalized with a fine of P5,000 up to P20,000 and face imprisonment ranging from six years and one day to 12 years.
“It is the legal obligation of business owners to secure the welfare of their employees through proper compensation and active social security membership. Without their compliance, these workers cannot enjoy the benefits that SSS offers,” Malatag said.
As of September 2024, SSS La Trinidad has issued violation notices to 72 employers in the ten RACE Operations it has conducted this year. Employers who received the written notices are given 15 days from receipt to coordinate with the branch and settle their contribution delinquencies. ### (PR)
