3rd Cordillera Festival of Festivals showcases the region’s rich cultural heritage

BAGUIO CITY, (October 18, 2024) – The Festival of Festivals 2024 Cordillera event is a vibrant celebration of the region’s rich cultural heritage. As the participating provinces embrace their proud festival in their communities.

The parade from Upper Session Road down to Malcolm Square continues to be a celebration of shared identity, unity, and the cultural richness of the Cordilleras.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong expressed his gratitude for the diligent work of the Department of Tourism—Cordillera Region in making this significant festival of festivals in the Cordillera a success. Each province in the Cordillera is united to showcase its respective talents through the indigenous dances of its cultural heritage.

DOT-CAR Regional Director Jovita Ganongan said, “The essence of the Cordillera Region grace rests more strongly than ever as we gather for a day that promises to be memorable. The Cordillera Festival of Festivals 2024.  

“This extraordinary event is a proposed celebration of our rich culture showcasing the finest offerings of our region. Three years ago the reason behind the festival of festivals was conceded by the Department of Tourism – CAR and the goal is to celebrate our culture and heritage as the foundation of tourism.

“Each festival offers an unforgettable sensory experience, capturing the essence of its place of origin while celebrating the spirit of the Cordillera. These festivities reflect the daily lives of the Cordillerans, sharing stories through dances, songs, and the rhythms of life echoing our love for one another and our deep respect for Mother Nature.” Ganongan concluded.

Also gracing the event to give their messages of welcome and support were Congressman Mark Go represented by Mrs. Sol Go, and NCCA Chairman Victorino Mapa Manalo represented by Chief Maricel C. Diaz.

On behalf of DOT Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco, Undersecretary Myra Paz Valderrosa-Abubakar shared her message.

“The festivals we are about to witness today are far more than mere spectacles; they are windows into the soul of the people who proudly call the Cordilleras home. These celebrations bring to life the deep-rooted traditions that continue to shape the cultural identity of this remarkable region. With that being said, I can say that there is something truly unique about the Cordilleras that invites you to find a deeper sense of belonging and peace—indeed, you will “Find Yourself in the Cordilleras,”

The eight major festivals have energetically demonstrated their native dances.

The Vibrant Kawayan Festival of Abra –  the Abrenian Kawayan Festival, which celebrates the province’s founding anniversary and its vibrant bamboo culture. This festival is held every March 9th and features various activities, including beauty pageants, a grand parade, a trade fair, and cultural shows.

Say-am naya Festival of Apayao – Showcases the Isnag people’s efforts to protect and preserve natural resources, featuring the iconic blue and red claddings and a depiction of the Philippine Eagle.

Adivay Festival in the Province of Benguet celebrates the unity of the 13 municipalities, featuring agri-tourism events, indigenous creative pursuits, and a colorful history.

The enchanting Kulpi Ad Festival of Ifugao it is a joyous celebration of Ifugao’s rich cultural heritage showcasing: traditional dances, music and costumes, Indigenous games and sports, traditional foods, exhibits of traditional crafts weaving and woodcarving, Rituals and ceremonies.

The Bodong Festival is a traditional peace pact celebration among the Kalinga tribes, showcasing their rich cultural heritage and promoting unity, harmony, and cooperation.

Lang-ay Festival of Mountain Province –  Celebrates customary living traditions, featuring indigenous games, street dances, chanting rituals, and cultural presentations.

The colorful Panagbenga Festival of Baguio City – is a major cultural and tourism event in Baguio City it is a stunning celebration of Baguio’s beauty, culture, and resilience.

The Kumpyansi Matagoan Festival of Tabuk City is a unique celebration that showcases the rich cultural heritage of the Kalinga people.
