POSD appeals to public on cleanliness, discipline

The Public Order and Safety Division (POSD) under the City Mayor’s Office calls on self-discipline to maintain cleanliness on public parks and thoroughfares.

In a social media post, Thursday, July 4, 2024, “Clean as you go. We are again appealing to our night market patrons to keep Harrison Road clean,” the POSD said.

POSD personnel have to spend extra hours even after duty hours to pick up trash and other rubbish along the whole length of Harrison Road after the night market operations.

Following Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong’s strong stance on cleanliness and discipline, POSD together with personnel from the Baguio City Police, the Baguio City Bureau of Fire and Protection, as well as the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology routinely conducts clean up drives for a green and beautiful Baguio.

Earlier in April, city officials approved Ordinance No. 18, series of 2024 institutionalizing the Clean-As-You-Go practice in restaurants, fastfood chains, cafeterias, eateries, bakeries, coffee shops, canteens, food outlets, and all similar food establishments and public eating places in the city.

The ordinance also requires all owners or managers of establishments to provide a minimum of three garbage bins for biodegradable, non-biodegradable and recyclable materials pursuant to Ordinance No. 16, series of 2006 or the City Ordinance on Solid Waste Management.

The city government also reiterates the Anti-Littering Ordinance “penalizing illegal disposal of refuse and illegal obstruction of waterways and dumping into bodies of water, requiring certain persons, institutions, and establishments to provide for receptacles for refuse, to keep surroundings clean, and to pick up litters, providing for amnesty from prosecution.”

Penalties for violators range from P1,000 to P5,000 for each violation. – JM Samidan
