City kicks-off, sets various activities for Resilience Month

The city launched its observance of National Disaster Resilience Month with a motorcade, July 1, along the Summer Capital’s main thoroughfares participated by personnel of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) and other concerned departments and agencies.

With “Bantayog ng Katatagan at ang Pagbubuklod sa Layuning Kahandaan” as this year’s theme, CDRRMO head Engr. Charles Carame said various activities will be held at Malcolm Square including a DRRM exhibit on July 20; blood letting on July 20 and 21; poster making and road show on July 21.

Carame disclosed that his office continues to conduct basic life support and first aid training to city government workers and is currently on its 8th batch of participants.

The CDRRMO will also facilitate an Incident Command System (ICS) Level 4 training this month where participants will be taught on how to manage and what to do during disasters, he added.

They are currently conducting an inventory of barangays with an “orange box” (much like a “ligtas kit”) containing tools that could be used during disasters. Most of those inventoried, so far, have their own box while those without will be provided whatever is needed, Carame said.

“Disaster resiliency is not only the work of the CDRRMO or the government but will be up to the grassroots level. Kaya ang advocacy namin ay dapat lagi tayong handa. Hindi lang gobyerno pero hanggang sa barangay to the household level ang handa,” he stressed. – Gaby B. Keith
