QUEZON CITY, March 6 (PIA) – A total of 20,133,869 Filipinos had completed the Step 1 of the  Philippine ID System (PhilSys) registration as of February 26, 2021,  Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported.

National Statistician Claire Dennis S. Mapa said the PhilSys Step 1 registration remains on track on their target.

“If the Step 1 registration target for the first quarter of 14.9 million were achieved, this would bring the total Step 1 registration to 25.5 million by March 31, 202,” Mapa said.

PSA is now looking to set its target registration to 70 million this year, to include vulnerable groups identified by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID), such as frontline health workers, senior citizens, indigents, and uniformed personne

The operation for the second step continues to roll-out on a gradual, small-scale basis. Efforts to ramp up to complete the registration for the second step, which includes validation of supporting documents and capture of biometric information in all registration centers of the 32 provinces, are set to start by the middle of March 2021.

PSA intends to open an online Step 1 registration to the public by April 2021, which will target the tech-savvy youths who can encourage and help members of their family to register online through the PhilSys portal. PSA has also partnered with the Land Bank of the Philippines to streamline financial services and PHLPost to deliver the PhilID to successful registrants.

The PhilSys aims to establish a single national ID for all Filipinos and resident aliens that shall be a valid proof of identity that shall be a means to simplifying public and private transactions. (GRC-PIA IDPD) ###
