Baguio City Jail hailed for national recognition

City officials recently highly commended the Baguio City Jail–Male Dormitory for being awarded as the National Best City Jail of the Year 2024 during the 33rd anniversary celebration of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) held last July 1, 2024 at the Terrence Hall, AFP Compound, Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.

In a resolution, city legislators stated that the  city government takes immense pride in the accomplishments and achievements of the Baguio City Jail–Male Dormitory and acknowledges its significant contributions to the city’s reputation for excellence in public service and corrections management.

Earlier, the Baguio City Jail–Male Dormitory was awarded the prestigious recognition as the Best national City Jail of the Year 2024 by Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin ‘Benhur’ Abalos, Jr. and the Chief BJMP Jail Director Ruel S. Rivera during the 33rd BJMP anniversary celebration held on July 1, 2024 at the Terrence hall, AFP Compound, Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.

The council noted that this is the second time that the Baguio City Jail–Male Dormitory has been honored with significant recognition with the first award received 25 years ago in 1999.

The body claimed that the Baguio City Jail–Male Dormitory’s remarkable achievements and dedicated service under the leadership of Jail Superintendent April Rose Wandag-Ayangwa has distinguished itself as one of the best jail facilities.

Further, it added that the recognition is a clear testament to the outstanding leadership, innovative programs, and commitment to excellence by the officers, staff, and personnel of the Baguio City Jail–Male Dormitory that had greatly contributed to the overall improvement of the facility and the welfare of the persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) detained in the said facility.

Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to the Baguio City Jail–Male Dormitory for information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. Dexter A. See
