Food delivery riders told to observe road courtesy

City officials recently urged food delivery riders operating in the city to observe utmost road safety and courtesy following recent accidents involving them and complaints from the public on their alleged recklessness.

Under Resolution No. 396, series of 2024, local legislators stated that traffic accidents along various roads in the city are a significant concern for riders, with factors such as red light running, speeding, and slippery roads contributing to the occurrence of accidents that compromise the safety of motorists and the public.

The council claimed that traffic enforcers documented numerous traffic accidents involving food delivery riders along various roads in the city leading to death of the riders in the worst case scenario in the past months.

The popularity of online shopping and delivery gained popularity at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and continues to flourish with the enhanced digital technology and delivery riders can be spotted along the streets even before sunrise and leave the roads in the dead of the night doing their requested errands from clients.

However, many motorists raised concern on the alleged recklessness of most delivery riders that tend to pose a serious threat to the safety of the public that oftentimes result in loss of lives and damage to properties.

Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to all food delivery companies operating in the city, the Land Transportation Office–Cordillera Administrative Region, the Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board–Cordillera Administrative Region and the Baguio City Police Office for their information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action.
