35 Baguio barangays commended for SGLGB Award

City officials recently congratulated and commended the 35 city barangays conferred with the prestigious Seal of Good Local Governance for Barangay (SGLGB) national passers for 2023 by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Under Resolution No. 315, series of 2024, local legislators stated that the achievements of the 35 city barangays stand as a resounding testament to the tireless efforts, unwavering determination and steadfast commitment of the respective barangay officials and personnel to serving their communities, ensuring that the needs of their constituents are addressed with compassion and efficiency while upholding the principles of good governance to the highest standards.

The SGLGB is an annual performance assessment and recognition system that evaluates barangays based on various governance areas to encourage local service improvement through recognition and incentives.

Further, the SGLGB also intends to encourage barangays to continuously progress in delivering efficient, equitable, and quality public services, putting primacy on integrity and good performance as pillars of meaningful local autonomy and development.

For the 2023 SGLGB, the principle ‘3+ 1’ applies where a barangay needs to pass all of the three core governance areas, namely, financial administration and sustainability, disaster preparedness and safety, peace and order and at least one of the essential governance areas, namely, social protection and sensitivity, business-friendliness and competitiveness and environmental management.

The 35 city barangays that were able to meet the stringent requirements that resulted in being conferred the SGLGB are AZKCO, Atok Trail, Camdas subdivision, fort del Pilar, Kabayanihan, Burnham-Legarda, Lourdes Subdivision Extension, Lower Lourdes Subdivision, Palma-Urbano, Lower Quirino Hill, Teodora Alonzo, Trancoville, Bakakeng Central, Camp 7, Camp Allen, City Camp Central, Dominican Hill-Mirador, Engineer’s Hill, Fairview, Hillside, Middle Quirino Hill, Kias, Loakan-Liwanag, Loakan Proper, Upper Market Subdivision, MRR Queen of Peace, Upper Quirino-Magsaysay, Upper Rock Quarry, Imelda Village, San Antonio Village, San Roque Village, Sto. Tomas Proper, Scout Barrio, Session Road-Gov. Pack road and Pacdal.

The council noted that the exemplary performance of the said barangays brought honor and distinction to the city by achieving the highest number of national passers in the Cordillera, posting a commendable passing rate of 27 percent.

Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to the DILG and the concerned barangays for information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. – Dexter A. See
