Mayor okayed to enter pact bolstering city’s telecom capability

The city council adopted resolution no. 283, series of 2024, granting authority to Mayor Benjamin Magalong, representing the city government, to enter into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Phil-Tower Consortium, Inc. (PhilTower) to improve the quality of telecommunications in the Summer Capital.

PhilTower is an independent tower company (ITC) with a valid and subsisting registration with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and has represented itself as a company capable of providing passive telecommunication infrastructure and related services.

“The importance of increasing connectivity and improving the quality of telecommunications in the city of Baguio as well as the implementation of infrastructures that contribute to accessible connectivity and economic growth will benefit the constituents. Thus, this notable opportunity to collaborate with PhilTower on this endeavor,” the measure stated.

It added that the city government is steadfast in its commitment to widening connectivity and augmenting technology infrastructure within the city as it strives to keep pace with advancements in telecommunications and ensure that residents have access to reliable and efficient connectivity. 

“It is crucial that the city partner with capable service providers in the industry,” the resolution stressed and stated that the MOU shall be submitted to the local legislature for confirmation. – Gaby B. Keith
