GHMC lauded for bagging Gold Trailblazer Award
City officials recently congratulated and commended the State-owned Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) for bagging the Gold Trailblazer Award for Universal Health Care (UHC) initiatives and for being conferred the Proficient Status under the Institute of Solidarity in Asia (ISA) Good Governance Framework Performance Governance System (PGS).
In a resolution, local legislators stated that the implemented strategies by the BGHMC that led to the achievement of the award and realization of the conferment further solidifies the medical partners status as the largest hospital in the Cordillera and one of the pioneer institutions for the UHC being implemented nationwide.
PGS is a significant tool of good governance reform promoting the efficient delivery of services, economic growth and the establishment of a positive climate for market institutions.
Further, it calls for effective, sustained, and systematic contributions from individuals and institutions for the common good of their institution or community and of the country as well as the long-term development of the Filipinos.
In a recent public revalidate last April 12, 2024, BGHMC was conferred with the PGS Proficient Status and bagged the Gold Trailblazer Award after it was able to comply with the four stages.
The council noted that from its humble beginning of attending to patients in a modest, grass-roofed sanitarium in 1902, BGHMC has undergone an extraordinary transformation leading to its current status as one of the premier government medical facilities north of Manila.
Moreover, BGHMC stands tall as a stellar medical institution, catering to the health care needs of hundreds of patients across the city and its neighboring regions.
According to the council, BGHMC set foot on the PGS first stage in 2018, garnering a Gold Trailblazer Award, and was conferred the PGS Compliant Status with a Silver Trailblazer Award the following year.
Between 2018 and 2023, the hospital’s capacity saw significant growth, reflecting its expanding role in the community with the enactment of the UHC law.
Currently, BGHMC is positioning itself as a 1,500-bed capacity Apex hospital offering advanced, comprehensive multi-specialty services catering to Northern Luzon health care provider network by 2025.
