City achieves ‘Ideal Functionality’for PDAO, PWDFP

The Department of the Interior and Local Government-Cordillera Administrative Region (DILG-CAR) has awarded a Certificate of Recognition to the city under Mayor Benjamin Magalong for achieving an ‘Ideal Functionality’ with a score of 96 percent in the 2023 Functionality Assessment for Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) and Persons with Disability Focal Person (PWDFP).     

DILG Baguio Office head Millicent Carino said the 2024 PDAO and PWDFP functionality assessment covered the local government unit’s (LGU) performance in 2023.

LGUs, by virtue of Republic Act 7277 (Magna Carta for PWDs) as amended by RA 10070 (PDAO Law) and pursuant to provisions of the 1987 Constitution, are mandated to ensure the dignity of all PWDs and guarantees them full respect to their human rights.       

To ensure that all LGUs are fulfilling their obligations under the said RAs, among other legal obligations and duties, Carino said the DILG issued various memoranda for the strengthening and assessment of the functionality of the PDAO and PWDFP. – Gaby B. Keith
