City awarded ‘Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance’

The city led by Mayor Benjamin Magalong was conferred with the ‘Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance’ for passing the 2022 Child Friendly Local Governance Audit conducted by the Child-Friendly Local Governance Audit (CFLGA) in 2021.

The plaque was signed by Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary and Council for the Welfare of Children Chairperson Rex Gatchalian and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr.

DILG Baguio Office chief Millecent Carino said that local government units (LGUs), by virtue of the Local Government Code of 1991, are duty bound to ensure the progressive realization of children’s right to survival, development, protection and participation pursuant to the provisions of the 1987 Philippine Constitution.

To ensure the realization of these constitutional rights of children, Carino said the CFLGA was institutionalized as the mandatory audit system to assess the LGU’s performance in the delivery of social services and programs for child and youth development. – Gaby B. Keith
