City laments passing of barangay kagawad

Mayor Benjamin Magalong ratified city council resolution no. 42, series of 2024, expressing the city’s “deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences” to the bereaved family of the late kagawad Renante Nacleo Simeon of Hillside barangay and recognizing his contributions to the community which he served from November 20, 2023, up to the time of his demise on Jan. 18, this year.

Authored by councilors Vladimir Cayabas and Leandro Yangot Jr., the measure stated that before he was elected as barangay kagawad, Simeon was already known as a dedicated volunteer in his barangay, especially in the maintenance of peace and order. 

Simeon showed his commitment to public service as a member of Guardians Brotherhood, volunteer member of Rescue 911 and vice president of the Kabalikat Civicom volunteer group, the approved resolution stated.

“His demise is a great loss not only to his family and friends but also to the people of Hillside barangay whom he faithfully served and to the city of Baguio,” the measure stressed.-Gaby B. Keith

MAYOR ITERATES IMPORTANCE OF CLEANLINESS IN BARANGAYS, ROADS

Mayor Benjamin Magalong reiterated the importance of maintaining cleanliness in the Summer Capital’s barangays especially of national roads during the regular monthly meeting of village chiefs, Feb. 2, at the Baguio Convention and Cultural Center.

“It appears na napapabayaan ang cleanliness ng national highways natin. Huwag na nating iasa pa iyan sa DPWH (Department of Public Works and Highways). Kung ang national highway ay nasasakopan (sa barangay) ninyo, pwede po ba na kayo na mismo ang mag initiative na linisin ang kalsada?” the Mayor pleaded.

Magalong also advised the punong barangays that if they are having a difficult time solving a problem or an ‘eyesore’ in their respective jurisdictions, that they immediately contact his office so that this can be dealt with and solved at the soonest possible time.

“Please don’t hesitate. Lalong-lalo na iyong maling pagtatapon ng basura at iba pa. Please let me know at ako ang aaksyon dyan. Napakabilis po namin pagdating sa ganyang mga problema,” the Mayor stressed.

Rejuvenation of the environment is one of the city government’s core points of agenda.

Also, at the meeting organized by the City Mayor’s Office-Special Services Division were local government department heads who shared updates and answered queries from the barangay officials led by councilor Rocky Aliping, Liga ng mga Barangay-Baguio chapter president. – Gaby B. Keith
