Repair of walkways with slip-resistance materials pushed
City officials recently requested the City Engineering Office (CEO) for the immediate repair, rehabilitation, improvement, and or maintenance of the various walkways around the city with slip-resistant materials installed for the safety of pedestrians using the same.
Under Resolution No. 698, series of 2023, local legislators underscored the need to enhance the different slippery walkways around the city with slip-resistant materials to improve their safety features and guarantee the overall safety of pedestrians regularly using the walkways.
The council claimed that the measure aims to prevent accidents and safeguard the wellbeing of individuals regularly using the walkways.
During the Scout Official for a Day (SOFAD) session held on October 23, 2023, the SOFAD Council adopted the proposal of SOFAD Councilor Danielle S. Abarientos that adopted the conduct of the immediate repair, rehabilitation, improvement and maintenance of standard walkways with slip-resistant materials as a priority policy of the city government for the safety of pedestrians.
The body admitted that the current condition of walkways in the different parts of the city has been a matter of concern, especially on the safety and wellbeing of the public due to signs of wear, damage, and deterioration posing risk and danger to pedestrians.
Further, the council disclosed that the walkways were constructed with various materials such as bricks, tiles and plain concrete that contribute to the unattractiveness and perceived lack of safety of the said walkways.
The council emphasized that it is high time for the CEO to look into the matter and work out the implementation of the appropriate remedial measures that will ensure the safety of pedestrians when using the walkways.
Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to the CEO for information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. – Dexter A. See
