City lines up events for 31st National Children’s Month celebration

The local government lined up various activities for the celebration of the 31st National Children’s month in the city this November.

Councilor Elmer O. Datuin, Chairperson of the City Council Committee on Social Services, Women and Urban Poor, said that the observance of National Children’s month aims to raise awareness about the rights, welfare and well being of Filipino children and to promote their protection and development.

The theme of this year’s celebration is ‘Healthy, Nourished, sheltered: Ensuring the Right to Life for All.’

He claimed that the theme emphasizes the fundamental importance of providing children with the basic necessities and conditions essential for their survival and wellbeing. It encompasses several key elements that are vital for promoting the right to life for all children. The said elements are integral to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child which outlines the basic rights and protection that children should be afforded.

Further, it emphasizes the right to life, survival, and development and calls upon governments and societies to prioritize the wellbeing of children.

Last October 28, 2023, the city had an art therapy for children with disabilities at the Quirino Elementary School aside from a series of outreach and feeding programs in partnership with the Baguio City Police Office – Women and Children Protection Desk (BCPO-WCPD) and the different non-government organizations (NGOs) in different barangays on November 10, 13, 17, 18 and 20.

Last November 9, the city had a tree planting activity at South Drive and on November 18, at the water reserve in Purok 4, Irisan.

There was also a lecture on anti-bullying last November 7 at barangay Balsigan and another lecture on cyber crime last November 11 at Asin road.

Agriculture dance workshop was also held on November 11 in partnership with different NGOs and Oplan BES and a medical and dental mission at Pacal circle.

On November 13, it will be the launching of child development workers’ everyday wellness programs in all day care centers that will involve the caregivers of children as they are the primary guardians of the kids.

There will be a Trainers training of parent effective service on November 14-15 at Hotel Tugos along Naguilian road followed by a parent-teen talk at the Bahay Pag-asa and at the same time, the children with disability summit at the city hall multipurpose hall on November 17.

There will be a Zumba dance workout at the BCPO Station 10 grounds and at the Camp 8 gymnasium on November 18 followed by another Trainers training on empowerment and reaffirmation of paternal abilities on November 21-22 at Hotel Tugos.

On November 25, it will be the Student Day at the PFVR gymnasium while the Samsung on Wheels which will be a mobile legends competition will be held on November 25-26. The said event will be held in 3 barangays such as Bakakeng Central, Loakan Apugan and Guisad Surong.

The month-long celebration will culminate with the Children’s Health fair at Session road during the open Sunday activity on December 3. The events will focus on the children and will be participated by the different departments and line agencies where they will set up booths to showcase their own advocacies in relation to children’s month.
