SEC holds Investor Education Roadshow in Ilocos Norte

The Securities and Exchange Commission – Baguio Extension Office (SEC), in collaboration with the Ilocos Norte Trade and Investment Promotions Center (INvest), successfully conducted an Investor Education Roadshow on 14 August 2023 at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Session Hall of the Ilocos Norte Provincial Capitol, Laoag City. The Roadshow aimed to educate the public on SEC registration and reporting requirements, as well as provide insights on detecting and avoiding investment scams. This initiative is part of the SEC’s commitment to promoting financial literacy and protecting the interests of

investors.

Attended by some 120 participants, the Investor Education Roadshow offered a comprehensive overview of the registration and reporting requirements imposed on SEC–registered companies. Atty. Regina May Cajucom–De Guzman, SEC Baguio Extension Office Director, presented valuable insights into the registration process, highlighting its significance in ensuring the legitimacy of registration with the SEC. Additionally, attendees were provided with in-depth information on the reporting obligations that

companies must fulfill, emphasizing the importance of regular and accurate reporting to maintain the companies’ integrity and good standing.

The Roadshow also focused on the detection and avoidance of investment scams, a critical concern for both experienced and novice investors. Atty. De Guzman shared practical tools and strategies to identify and protect the public against fraudulent investment schemes. By highlighting red flags and common tactics employed by scammers, participants gained a deeper understanding of the potential risks and how to navigate the investment landscape safely.

This event was a significant milestone in advancing investor education and protection in the Province.
