SM City Cauayan and BFP 2nd Nationwide Simultaneous Fire Drill

In an effort to ensure the safety of SM’s stakeholders including customers, tenants, employees, and its nearby communities, SM City Cauayan in partnership with the Bureau of Fire Protection conducted a Fire and Evacuation Drill on July 31, 2023, as part of the 2023 2nd Nationwide Fire Drill on High Dense Occupancies.

The activity led by SM Supermalls aims to test the response capability of the mall’s Fire Brigade Team. The simulated fire drill was held in more than 80 SM Malls nationwide.

SM malls in North Luzon, including SM City Cauayan with the malls’ Fire Brigade team members demonstrated their mastery of evacuation drills and showed their fire-fighting skills with the use of fire extinguishers and fire hoses.

Led by the Incident Commander Rowinson Valmonte, the Emergency Response Group (ERG) of the mall was activated as soon as the simulated fire incident was reported. The Fire Brigade team immediately responded to the fire incident, meanwhile, the Rescue Team and Medical Team responded to the plotted victims. The Communication Team coordinated the incidents to the friendly-forces and accounted for the total number of participants. On the other hand, BFP-Cauayan demonstrated their capabilities in rescuing a plotted victim at the 2nd level of the mall.

The partnership of BFP and SM Supermalls is one of the ways in which SM amplifies its commitment to contribute to the creation of risk-resilient societies and promote a global and national culture of disaster risk reduction and resiliency. The public-private partnership (PPP) of SM and BFP gives priority to the constant training of SM’s personnel to respond to disasters, including earthquakes and destructive fires. This will help ensure the safety of SM’s stakeholders, including customers, tenants, employees, nearby communities, and the general public.

This partnership demonstrates the progress made by the two entities in preventing disaster risks and losses of lives, livelihoods, and health—in line with the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030.

SM, as a member of ARISE—Philippines, the Private Sector Alliance for Disaster Resilient Societies, which is led by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), commits to promoting a global and national culture of disaster risk reduction and resiliency.### (PR & File Photos of SM City Cauayan)
