Mask wearing indoors optional again

Mask wearing indoors optional again

Mayor Benjamin Magalong on June 15, 2023 declared the wearing of face masks in indoor setting as optional once again after coronavirus disease cases in the city decreased in the past days.

The mayor said the case reproduction number (Rt) in the city has been below 1.0 for the past 20 days except for the three days which figures are still for further validation

“Experts declared that if Rt is maintained at below 1.0 for straight 14 days, there is high confidence that cases are clearly on a downtrend.  With this positive development, we can now again relax the face mask requirement,” the mayor said.

The mayor issued Executive Order No. 63-2023 last May 17 reviving the mandatory use of face masks in indoor spaces like workplaces, classrooms, events venues, banquet halls, conference rooms and the like.

He said the move is part of the city’s proactive stance to constantly safeguard the health of the populace in view of the increase in COVID-19 cases.

He, however, reminded the public to continue observing minimum health standards for protection against the disease. – Aileen P. Refuerzo
