Batang Pinoy Champions congratulated
City officials commended and congratulated the Baguio City athletes who reigned supreme in the Batang Pinoy National Championships held in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur on December 17-22, 2022.
In a resolution, local legislators stated that it is with great pride and joy that the people and officialdom of the city confer the commendation to the Baguio-based athletes who proudly represented the city during the Batang Pinoy national championships held in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur last December 17-22, 2022.
Earlier, hundreds of Baguio-based athletes actively participated in the Batang Pinoy national championships.
The annual event is jointly organized and undertaken by the local government units, the Department of Education and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).
During the staging of the face-to-face games after the COVID-19 pandemic, there were 17 sporting events that were played either in person or virtually. The events that were conducted virtually were arnis, dance sport, judo, karate, Muay Thai, Pencak Silat, taekwondo and wushu while in-person competitions were archery, athletics, badminton, chess, cycling, table tennis, swimming, weightlifting and game sports.
Subsequently, the 279-strong Baguio delegates snatched some 31 gold, 30 silver and 39 bronze medals totaling to 100 medals for the city delegation.
The council recognizes the fact that Baguio City is considered a powerhouse in the said sporting competition for having been consistent in winning the overall championships in the past editions of the Batang Pinoy national championships.
Further, the body pointed out that the outstanding performances of the Baguio-based athletes in the Batang Pinoy national championships with the supervision of their coaches and support from their families have portrayed unquestionable discipline and sports excellence perfected through years of training and dedication that serve as inspirations for the whole country and are worthy of emulation to the people of the nation and to the city, especially to the youth. – Dexter A.
