More ‘Senior Citizen-friendly’ overpasses in Baguio, asked

Mayor Benjamin Magalong ratified city council resolution no. 525, series of 2022, earnestly requesting the City Engineering Office (CEO) to make the overpasses within the Summer Capital convenient to senior citizens.
The approved measure was based on a similar proposal by Senior Citizen Official For-A-Day (SCOFAD) councilor Benigno Andam that was adopted during the SCOFAD Session, Oct. 17, asking that the overpasses be made ‘senior citizen-friendly’.
“The overpasses located in various parts of Baguio allow traffic to pass without affecting pedestrian safety. However, it has been observed that many senior citizens have a hard time going up and down these overpasses due to their advanced age and the various maladies they feel and as a result, they prefer crossing the streets much to their inconvenience,” the resolution states.
It adds that the CEO should formulate and implement measures that will take into consideration the needs of senior citizens in designing the overpasses.
“There is a need to make the overpasses convenient to senior citizens in order to preserve the safety and convenience of the aged population,” the measure states. – Gaby B. Keith
