04 November 2022 – Leading fiber broadband provider Converge ICT Solutions Inc. has once again brought honor to the country, as it won big in the World Communication Awards (WCA), the most revered mark of achievement in the telecom industry, bagging the Best Operator in an Emerging Market Award.
Likewise, its President and Co-Founder Maria Grace Uy have won the Woman in Telecoms Award, besting four other women leaders from global companies like US-based Verizon Business Group and UK multinational Colt Technology Services. She is also the first Filipina to bring home this international telco award.
WCA is the industry’s most prestigious award, founded in 1999, which recognizes executives, operators, and startups that have proven their excellence in the rapidly evolving communications industry.
In its citation, WCA said Converge was seen as “inspirational, highlighting strong customer focus and innovation.” The premier telco award-giving body also mentioned that one judge “spoke of the (company’s) achievement of bringing world-class connectivity to unserved and underserved areas.” WCA lauded Converge and its success in setting out to compete in the local telco space despite the dominance of other major telco companies.
“We thank the World Communication Awards for hailing Converge as the Best Operator in an Emerging Market and for giving us such a prestigious award. I’m honored to receive this recognition which affirms our commitment to bringing high-speed, quality broadband connectivity to the majority of Filipinos,” said Converge CEO and Co-Founder Dennis Anthony Uy who personally accepted the award in London with his wife Maria Grace Uy.
Converge President and Co-Founder Maria Grace Uy said that she’s happy to be recognized as a strong voice for women in telecoms all over the world. “But ultimately, I do believe that the success of Converge is a team effort. We focused on the huge demand for quality and reliable internet, we executed our plan very well and we are committed to delivering what we promise. In every little thing we do, we put our hearts and give our best.”
“This award means so much to me as one of the founders of Converge and please allow me to share this award also with all the women who are striving to succeed, not just in the telecoms industry but also in other male-dominated fields,” she added.
As of June 2022, Converge had already expanded its coverage to more than 13.5 million homes, which makes it one of the country’s most advanced and extensive fiber networks despite being the youngest.
Based on its end-September report to the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), Converge has already extended its fiber footprint to nearly 600,000 kilometers, strengthening its position as the leading pure fiber network provider in the country. # (PR)
