Waterway simultaneous clean-up drive
A simultaneous clean-up of the waterway on was spearheaded by the City Environment and Parks Management Office (CEPMO) last Sept. 16 in coordination with the Environmental Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Cordillera Administrative Region (EMB-DENR, CAR), the Philippine National Police (PNP), Department of Agriculture, Baguio Teachers Camp DEPED and all the 128 barangays in Baguio City.
This is in celebration of the Balili River Day and the National Clean-Up Month.
Many organizations and individuals heeded the call for the waterway clean-up exhibiting the spirit of volunteerism such as the Philippine Institute of Environmental Planners, Different Chapters of the United Architects of the Philippines), Concentrix among others.
In the kick-off program, CEPMO Chief Atty. Rhenan G. Diwas presented the various programs of the City Government to rehabilitate the waterways. He reminded the public of the perilous impact to river quality of direct discharge of wastewater, especially the operation of piggeries within river easements.
He cited the HLURB Resolution disallowing piggeries in urban areas and warned all hog raisers to stop their activities and instead focus on alternative livelihood programs being offered by the City Government and other line agencies. – CEPMO
