BCPO assures police visibility in city

Local police authorities assured the public of sufficient police visibility in strategic areas around the city as part of its peacekeeping and anti-criminality initiatives, especially with the resumption of in person classes in various private and public educational institutions.

Police Lt. Col. John Cayat, Jr., Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) Deputy City Director for Operations, said that one of the marching orders of PNP chief gen. Rodolfo Azurin, Jr. and regional director Police Brig. Gen. Mafelino Bazar is for police visibility to deter the commission of crimes in their respective areas of jurisdiction and to guarantee the safety of the public, especially with the ongoing in person classes and the full implementation of face to face classes by November.

He said that the BCPO has already maximized the deployment of its available manpower in strategic areas around the city to help in traffic management and law enforcement activities of the local police force.

The BCPO deputy chief claimed that based on the initial assessment that was done for the first week of in person classes that paved the way for the significant movement of people, the traffic situation, especially in roads leading to school zones, are improving primarily because of the police visibility and more importantly the cooperation of the public to the implementation of traffic rules and regulations.

Cayat, who is also serving as the concurrent chief of the BCPO traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU), pointed out that various strategies to help address the current traffic situation in the city are being seriously studied and evaluated by the members of the Baguio city traffic and transportation Technical Working Group to ascertain what will be the most feasible schemes that will be implemented to address the monstrous traffic jams around the city.

According to him, there are various traffic schemes that are now being subjected to experiment to ascertain what will be the most effective scheme to be implemented to ensure the smooth flow of traffic along major roads around the city.

Cayat appealed to both the pedestrians and motorists to strictly adhere to the implementation of traffic rules and regulations and the existing experimental traffic schemes so that experts will be able to come up with an accurate assessment on what will be the most feasible schemes that will be permanently implemented to ensure the smooth flow of traffic around the city.

He admitted that managing the city’s prevailing traffic is really challenging but traffic experts and law enforcers cannot do it alone, thus, the utmost cooperation of the pedestrians and motorists is required to be able to decide on the appropriate strategies that will be applied in various choke points to help in containing the congestion. – Dexter A.
