City hails victorious police marathoner

Mayor Benjamin Magalong signed city council resolution no. 336, series of 2022, congratulating and commending police staff sergeant Miguelito Cruz Carranza for winning gold and silver medals in the 2022 World Police and Fire Games at Rotterdam, Netherlands held on July 22 to 31, this year.

The measure reveals that he captured a gold medal in the cross country 10 km team category and silver in the cross country 10 km individual category of the Games considered as one of the largest multi-sport events of its kind, celebrating athletic excellence, courage and camaraderie among first responders from around the world.

Carranza was born and raised in Baguio and has been a policeman for the past 12 years and is currently assigned to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Cordillera field unit.

“Having been blessed with a talent in running, PSSgt. Carranza has been participating and winning in local races and nationwide trail and running competitions,” the resolution states.

It mentions that through hard work, discipline and proper training, he competed and became the first Filipino policeman to finish in one of the toughest ultra-trail race of 2017, the ‘Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc’, a 166-kilometer international mountain trail running race that circumnavigated the French Alps, passing through Italy and Switzerland.

Carranza is a four-time finisher of the grueling and tough 160 km trail race in the Philippines dubbed as ‘King of the Mountain-Hardcore Hundred Miles’ 2016 to 2019 editions held in the peaks of the Cordillera.

He also bagged 2nd place in the 100 km virtual race called ‘Ultra Trail Snowdonia’ in May 2021, a race organized by a United Kingdom-based event organizer.

“The outstanding performance of PSSgt Carranza portrayed unquestionable discipline and sports excellence perfected through years of training and dedication that serves as an inspiration for the whole country and is worthy of emulation to the people of the nation and the City of Baguio especially the youth,’ the resolution states. – Gaby B.
